Gift Aid
When a UK taxpayer makes a donation to a charity, they have already paid tax on the money they donate. Gift Aid is a government scheme in which charities can claim back that tax at the basic rate. This means that when you make a donation of £10, if you are a UK taxpayer and make a Gift Aid declaration, we are able to receive a total amount of £12.50.
To be able to Gift Aid your donation you must:
- pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April one year to 5 April the next) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that the Islamic Texts Society will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year.
- complete a Gift Aid declaration and return it to the Islamic Texts Society.
Whether you pay basic rate tax or higher rate tax the Islamic Texts Society can only claim back tax at the basic rate on your donation. However, you are able to claim back the difference between the basic rate of tax on the donation that we have claimed and the higher rate of tax you have paid on the amount and donate it to us. You can do this by nominating the Islamic Texts Society to receive the refund on your Self-Assessment Tax Return and including our unique SA Donate reference code which is: KAU64UG.
